FG Launches Community-Driven Feed and Fodder Corridor Project in Kwara to Improve Livestock Production, boost farmers' livelihood

The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, has officially launched a community-driven feed and fodder corridor project in Ijagbo, Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The strategic initiative aims to accelerate livestock development, improve animal production, create sustainable jobs, and strengthen food security across the region.
Speaking during an inspection of the project site, The Director of Ranch and Pastoral Resources Development at the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, Hakeem Ibilade, disclosed that host communities will lead the project. According to him placing local stakeholders at the center of planning, implementation, and ownership ensures long-term sustainability.

As part of the infrastructure development, Ibilade said the Federal Government has approved the construction of a modern, eco-friendly goat housing facility added that the facility is engineered to optimize livestock management, minimize labor, and completely eliminate offensive odors.
Mr. Ibilade noted that the project integrates modern animal husbandry with indigenous knowledge to enhance productivity rather than replace traditional practices with a view to guarantee all year-round feed supply.

He further explained that the initiative adopts a semi-intensive production model that relies on cultivated pasture to support systematic rotational grazing, effectively shielding local farmers from seasonal feed scarcity.
Also speaking, The Kwara State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) Coordinator, Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye, described the programme as a massive catalyst for rural economic growth, noted that the initiative will drastically improve animal production, elevate farmer livelihoods, and fast-track rural development both in Kwara State and across Nigeria.

The traditional ruler of the host community, the Onijagbo of Ijagbo Land, Oba Sharafadeen Adeniyi Buhari, alongside local farmers' representatives, commended the Federal Government for selecting their community for the landmark project.
The monarch called on the government to expand the site's scope by incorporating a veterinary hospital and advanced animal identification and traceability systems with  a view to maximize the hub's potential.
As part of the wrap up activities, the team also visited some of the livestock projects sites across the state and interacted with the farmers to have an insight about the development of livestock in the state.
